About the Director...Jennifer Pierson (Miller)
Jennifer began her dance training over twenty years ago, and it has had a great impact on her life. Over the years, Ms. Pierson has studied many different forms of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, and lyrical. Jennifer also studied extensively in Scottish Highland dancing with Cheryl Peggie, Sharon (Magnuson) Capitani, and Jill (Sweppy) Hodgins. She has won numerous awards and championships all over the United States and Canada including 6 Mid-west regional championships and two U.S. National championships. She was ranked in the top six in the country for 13 consecutive years, eight of which she was ranked in the top three.
After competing for so many years, Ms. Pierson decided to try dancing professionally and was asked to join the Celtic Dance Theatre of Arizona as a soloist for their 1999 tour of “Fire & Grace”, a show that blended traditional Highland dance with ballet, jazz, and some modern. The show took her all over the west coast performing for audiences in theaters such as the San Diego Civic Auditorium, the Cashman Convention Center in Las Vegas, the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix and Royce Hall on the campus of UCLA.
Jennifer earned her Highland Teaching Certificate, highly commended, through the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B.A.T.D.). She also earned her Bachelors Degree in Performing Arts with a specialization in Dance from Oakland University where she was a scholarship student and also the recipient of the Jacob Decker Dance Award for outstanding Dance Major in 2002.
Along with teaching Highland in her White Lake studio, Jennifer is the choreographer for several local theater companies. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, Rodney, and their children, Nathaniel, Caden and Ellie.
