Dancer & Parent Expectations

Dancer Expectations:
• Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your class start time to change, put on shoes and use the restroom if needed. If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late,    please call to let me know. It is important to be on time to enusre proper warm up is done before actual dancing. Remember: "Early is on time, on time is late".
• Proper attire is required. See class info page for attire guidelines.
• Please, no food or drinks (except water) in the studio. Also, no gum or candy.
• Please treat others in the way you wish to be treated. Rivalries within the studio or with other studios will not be tolerated.
• After learning a step or dance, you are expected to practice it on your own so that it can be reviewed, not re-taught at a later lesson.

• Always bring a notebook to class to write down corrections. A parent is expected to do this if the dancer is not able.
• Practice those corrections at home before the next class and record on your practice sheet.
• Show respect to others including instructors and classmates at lessons and fellow dancers, teachers, parents, volunteers, pipers and judges at competitions, and other studio events. Always remember, you are not only representing yourself, but your entire studio.
• The instructor must approve competitions and workshops before entry is sent in. If the student has not practiced and is not prepared, they will not be allowed to attend certain events.
• Costumes are a large part of a dancers success. If you do not look presentable, you may be overlooked at competitions. For this reason, costumes must be approved by the instructor prior to purchase.
• If you are having problems in class or at competitions, please let us know. We are here for you!
Parent Expectations:
• It is your responsibility to ensure that your child arrives on time to lessons, dressed in proper class attire. I need to be able to see their positions and they need to be able to move freely.
• Practice with your child, see practice guidelines for suggestions.
• Respect the fact that the instructor has the right to prevent a student from competing at any given competition if they have not practiced or prepared for the event, even if the entry has already been sent in.
• Please notify me if any questions or conflicts should arise, communication is the best way to ensure that you and your child have a smooth highland dancing journey!
• It is not only your child that is representing the studio, you are as well! Please be a positive example for your child and others at class, competitions and other studio events.
• Parents will be allowed and are encouraged to observe classes as long as it is not a distraction to the dancers.
• Class fees are payable by the month unless other arrangements have been made. See payment policy for further information.
• If you will be late, or cannot make the lesson at all, please call so that I know that everything is okay. I will start to worry if I don’t hear from you!
